This is a tricky situation and never a 'correct' answer. Why? The airlines want to fly as many people as they can to the destination they are going to (this is true with just about any type of transportation). If you need to get somewhere at a certain time at a certain budget, what I would suggest you do is check sites that do multiple checks on the internet. The ones I use:
http://www.kayak.com
http://www.sidestep.com
You can also Google 'hundreds of travel sites or something of the same. There may be even more sites out there. Is there any guarantee that you will find a phenomenal deal? Nope. AND on top of that, any that say XXX left at this price are not going to budge from that price, but you can go a step further and call the airlines and find when the right time to go would be. You can also check boxes on travel sites that say +- 2 days or the like. ONE days difference can mean a HUGE difference in price.
As an example I just checked a one-way from where I live... on a Monday it is $331 on a Tuesday it is $139 a difference of $192!
Another example that doesn't exactly apply to your situation but in general traveling at the last minute. I found a cruise I wanted to go on... $1299 Balcony. I called the cruise line and they offered it to me for a 'member discount' of $899... saved $400! AND was not even a member of that cruise line. To save $400 I can definitely make a 15 minute phone call.
Hope all works out for you!
You don't tell us where you are traveling from!?!
Here's Boston to LA for $129Does anybody know a way to get really cheap flights at the last minute?
Become a registered airline courier. You give up your baggage allowance to take some package for various companies. You fly for next to nothing, sometimes even free. Limited number of airports though.
thats impossible
from where?
Make real good friends with an airline employee real fast
