I heard from a colleague that it is possible to go on the airport (eg London Luton/Gatwick) and buy tickets for bargain price to many destination on the flights that other passengers didnt show up or tickects werent sold earlier? Is it true? If so how do you do that??

Regular airlines do not dump prices on last-minutes, or else their entire yield-management profit-maximizing scheme doesn't work. If you're headed someplace sunny and want room and board included for 7 days, then sometimes you can get a sell-off from the travel agents in the airport.

cheapoair.com has been the cheapest i can find with rising ticket costs due to airlines going bankrupt and belly up. Good luck! I've found flights from California to Hawaii for $350 roundtrip. Whereas normally they are going for over $1000 roundtrip right now.
