Can anyone name a good web site for really cheap flights and hotel in New York?

Looking to go in October this year. Have approached a few agents, but was hoping someone out there had some good alternatives. Are there any success stories out there of people who have gambled on last minute delas? Can anyone name a good web site for really cheap flights and hotel in New York?
For the air you need to go to several different sites to price it out and then see who offers the lowest rates. This will be the best way to find out.

All the online discounters are all pretty safe to go through. Just be sure you understand policies, etc. in case you need to cancel or change your flight. Look over what you book several times to make sure it is what you want/need. As far as the one site that is the best, it's really hard to tell you. They will all vary and change all the time. One site may be lower for one person, higher for the next. You just have to do your research and see what yo find. In my expereince, the cheapest way to go is directly through the airline. In my past dozen trips, that I can remember, the airline has always been cheaper than the online discounters. Just look around and see what you can find.

Check around online. There are several online discounters, like expedia, priceline, orbitz, etc. This is usually the cheapest way to go. But you should also check directly through airline sites to see if they are running a special. It is also easier to make changes if you use the airline directly instead of a discounter. For example, air tran often offers discounted tickets on Tuesdays and Thursdays and it is cheaper than through other online sites. I prefer to go with the air sites directly. Not only are they usually a less than discounters, but if you have to make a change or cancel, it is a lot easier than going with the discounters. Also watch in the newspapers and such, they often advertise specials in the newspaper .

For the hotel you can do similar things. Look around to see what you can find. Also call the hotel directly to see what they offer, online discounters aren't always cheaper. I always use a travel agent to book my vacation and either a travel agent or the airline directly to book my air. It's safer going to the source or an agent with these type things.

As far as gambling on last minute deals. This is a possibility. I wouldn't do it with air, though, the prices will continue to go up as you get closer. I would by the air now. If you have set dates you will have to be flexible with where you stay. But if you don't have a set date, you will have a better chance of getting the hotel you want with a last minute deal. The only problem is that there air will probably be so high that your savings won't amount to much if anything. So I think your best option would be to decide what dates you want, then buy your air now. Then you can either pay for your hotel room now, or take the chance of getting a good las minute deal.

Hope this helps!

Well if you're looking for Cheap flights websites, you can try cheaptickets.com, expedia.com, or orbitz.com These three websites have the best rates.
If you can a cheap(ish) hotel, i would strongly advise the Radio City Apts. They offer studio apts, one or two bedroom apts. They are in a excellent location, a 2 min walk from Times sq and radio city. I've stayed there twice and they are great value for money, truly one of NYC's best kept secrets, SHHH don't tell everyone LOL :-) I've inc the link to it and trip advisor which has many reviews of the apts and other hotels in NYC. It also has flight searches and info/advice
