Cheap flights to Shanghai from Canada? Is there even such a thing?

My boyfriend is in Shanghai for 5 months and I want to visit very badly. I live in Toronto, and so far the cheapest flight I have been able to find is $1700. WAY too much money.

It's very annoying because he has an apartment and everything there-- so once I arrived I wouldn't need to spend much money at all. It's just getting there.

Does anyone know any cheap travel sites or ways to get cheap tickets to Shanghai?Cheap flights to Shanghai from Canada? Is there even such a thing?

That's the going price for asia flights in the summer. There is really no way around it. Even at this fare, the seats sell out. There are a lot of Chinese people spending this kind of money on airfare every year. The asian airlines offer special sales to Chinese travel agents so you can try calling up a few of them in Toronto. By the way, check on how long you can stay on your visa. I thought you could only stay one month or 3 months? Also, prices will come down in September, so if possible, buy a one-way at about $800, then come back at a lower fare. For asia flights, many times the one way is not outrageously expensive the way it is with US domestic flights.
