I check Thailand flights all the time $1050 is about the lowest (from the US east coast). But $1300 is reasonable. You should check Kayak. If your a big guy stay away from ANA (all Nippon Airways the seats are very small and after a 16 hour flight you'll understand.

I would say $150 (room and food) per day or $2100 for vacation. You can get by on much less say $40 a day (room and food) but your on vacation.
