Probably never. Even the 10 Pound fares offered by RyanAir are basically a publicity stunt.
However, airfares between the UK and the USA are usually much less than 1000 Pounds, even during the summertime high season. For example, London to Las Vegas is currently about $1200 (a bit more than 600 Pounds) and London to New York is $940 (about 468 pounds).
If your schedule is flexible, watch for fare sales. You may be able to find tickets for 250 to 300G Pounds during the various low seasons.
Good luck!
I recently saw 拢8,50 singles (+tax, of course) on Manchester-Toronto. Of course that's not the USA, but Niagara, Buffalo, and Detroit are not too far away via car or coach. Other options at http://www.canadian-affair.com
Zoom has some brilliant offers currently on Gatwick-JFK. http://www.flyzoom.com They have been hyping "low-cost transatlantic service" but so far, not as cheap as 拢10.
Michael O'Leary (Ryanair) has said 2010 for the new uber-cheap transatlantic airline. He has also said it depends on being able to acquire aircraft at a good price.
Unfortunately, with the new Air Passenger Duty adding 拢40 to transatlantic roundtrips (拢80 for business or first class), plus fuel surcharges adding 拢65 to 拢80, even with 拢10 flights, it's actually going to cost minimum 拢125 return when it's all added up.When will budget airlines operate UK-USA cheap flights so I don't have to pay 拢1000 to hop over the sea?
well...i don't think you'll ever get an airfair ticket for 20 dollars
but AirTran has really cheap rates
